You're into the realm of experts. When we were writing OP we
encountered a company formed by academics that could sell us a
hyphenation algorithm for any language.
Same with grammar.
However, all these years later, Google tells me there are open
source grammar checkers so someone could convert one of those into
an applet.
You'd be on a hiding to nothing. (Or should that read 'You would be on
a hiding to nothing'?) Whose grammar is Google offering: US or UK?
Currently pundits (e.g. Oliver Kamm in 'The Times') seem to be trying
to say that there is now no such thing as "English grammar": it
should follow what the man-in-the-street would say. They argue that
"good grammar" is an invention of the Victorians, pretending that
English is really Latin in style.
It's an academic minefield.
