I received an email containing a jpeg scan/phot image of an
into !DPlngScan, which reported the image 24.17M the original email
reported as 1129K.

Because DPScan will load the (JPEG) compressed image and expand to its full size in memory.

If loaded into !draw it all looks fine but if resaved over itself, as
though you were editing, !draw errors with this file already open.

Interesting. I wonder what left the file open - DPScan? There are a number of utilities, Epilogue is one, which show you open files.

Put it another way, after a machine reset does this event still happen.

If the draw file is loaded into Procad+ you get the error message
Font(s) not found, including 0. On clicking on continue you get a
complete freeze up which requires Alt Break to get out of.

DPScan will produce a Draw file that contains just a sprite. No font table in other words. I may be wrong but I don't think Draw files have to contain a font table.

Loading the draw file into !RiscDRAW produces a !RiscCAD file which
when loaded into !RiscCAD produces a very small image bottom left
which bears no relation to the original draw.

Some sort of scaling problem.

I'd guess your image is quite large - scope then to test the limits of memory or space resolution.

It looks as though the problem is the !draw file produced by
!DPlingScan, any ideas.

Save as a sprite and see if you have any better luck. Or of course, many apps (e.g. Draw) will handle JPEG images direct - much smaller file.

Another method woud be:

DPScan - JPEG in, Sprite out

Draw - Sprite in, Draw file out
