I think you need to provide more details about your setup.
I took this opportunity to try out freebsd, installed version 9 in a
virtual box and it works without problems.
To compile I used
CXXFLAGS="-Wno-long-long" ./configure --with-vorbis-prefix=/usr/local
But darkice already exists in freebsd ports:
