The Golden State's next big election is just around the corner. Here's what
you need to know about registering.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Today is the deadline to register to vote in California’s
Nov. 8 midterm election.
Eligible voters must register by midnight to receive a ballot in the mail.
Los Angeles residents will cast their ballots to decide the fate of the
governorship, attorney general, insurance commissioner, secretary of state,
superintendent of public instruction, seats in the U.S. Senate, local
government placements and seven statewide propositions on everything from
abortion rights to legalized sports betting.
The push to get voters to the polls for the Nov. 8 midterm elections in
California began with National Voter Registration Day

a decade-old nonpartisan civic holiday designed to boost registration across
the nation.

How Can I Register?
For those who still need to register, it can be done online at
www.registertovote.ca.gov/ <https://registertovote.ca.gov/>.
Registration applications can also be found at post offices, government
offices and public libraries.
For those who miss the Oct. 24 deadline, same-day registration will be
available for "conditional" registration, in which a provisional ballot is
given out.
The state allows for same-day registration until 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Can I Track My Ballot?
Yes. The state allows voters to sign up to track a ballot
<https://wheresmyballot.sos.ca.gov/> throughout the process. The site offers
a free subscription that sends automatic notifications by text, email, or
voicemail on the status of the ballot.
Can I Vote Early In California?
Yes. At least 28 California counties will allow early voting and more
flexibility for those trying to cast a ballot this year under the Voter’s
Choice Act, established by Senate Bill 450, which was signed into law in 2016.
Up to 10 days ahead of the election, the following counties will allow
residents to vote in person:

When Will I Get My Ballot In The Mail?
Ballots were mailed to every active voter in California on Oct. 10.
Where Can I Find Ballot Boxes And Vote Centers?
The state publishes information about where to cast a ballot two to four
weeks ahead of Election Day, according to the California Secretary of State’s
office.
