This is a good article (link below) on the threatened Rutgers strike and
Rutgers adjuncts, who are excluded from the agreement announced today by
Rutgers and the AAUP-AFT. That union includes, as well as full-time tenure-
and non-tenure track profs, graduate-student and teaching assistants. All
of those covered are notoriously low-paid; in the 4-year deal they will
reportedly receive 3% annual raises (2.5% in year 4).
*But the agreement excludes so called "part-time" teaching staff
("adjuncts"), who perform 70% of the instruction at Rutgers. *The salaries
of these workers form 0.8% of Rutgers budget at a school with over 300
"managers" who make $250,000+ Rutgers also paid $56 million to management
consultants last year alone. The bloated greed of these "managers" at
public institutions seems to have no limit.
