Bought a Syncmaster CRT yesterday for R100 on Gumtree. Forgot how good
CRTs actually look. My HD5770 didn't work because the power supply in my
gaming box isn't powerful enough. But the good news is that Linux can
support 15khz scan with a customized kernel using Geforce cards. And you
can even run it in multi-monitor mode, so you can run your OS via HDMI and
set it up so that whenever you wanna retrogame it will display the game on
the CRT.
Unfortunately the particular Syncmaster I got doesn't support 15khz. Guess
I can't complain. Apparently there's an AOC LCD that can also scan down to
15khz. Not sure if it's the same one we use at the session, but it could
make for a decent monitor for a custom retro cab.
