The Intermountain FP7 is "semi-modular".
The roof horns, roof fans, lift rings, dynamic brake panel, exhaust
stacks, steam generator, front pilot, front buffer, number boards,
nose door, grab irons, side skirts, side steps, side grilles, rear
door, are ALL separate pieces. I counted about 80 individual pieces on
the body alone.
The major variations can include:
Dynamic Brake: None, or 36", or 48"
Steam Generator: yes or no
Front Headlight: Single or Double
Side Skirts: Full or Cutout
Front Pilot: Passenger or Freight
I only have 3 minor complaints with Intermountain:
1) Side grilles are sloppy (visible glue)
2) They used the wrong road number for a 48" fan. (or the wrong fan
for #1417 and "1421)
3) The paint and lettering could have easily been more correct.
(spacing between "Canadian" and "Pacific" is too large, and the grey
panel should stop 3" from the rear of the body.)
These 3 items would cost nothing to do correctly.

modular construction. While I've not seen the Intermountain FP-7A I
assume it's of a more conventional shell design in that it's more or
less one piece which de facto means one size must fit all to a
signficant extent and those looking to better match a given
prototype are going to have to do some work.
