First off its not a combine, its a emergence service car. It is more
than likely it was a first world war hospital car and before that a
coach in its earlier life. The coupla is made from the clerestory.
Fred, I think you’re confusing this car with the six 2900 series hospital cars
used in WW1. The WW1 hospital cars were pulled from the 2900 series colonist
cars. They were modified with double doors on the right hand side of the car
only. The doors were not full height like a baggage loading door. The left
hand side of the car was left untouched.
There was also hospital car, 403404, used during this time. It served as an
ambulance car from 1906 to 1920.
