I remember an old engineer telling me that he received a letter from the railway about three months after re retired informing him that tha average age of an engineman's life after retirement was three months and that he should make sure his will etc should be in place and up to date in case of his demise. He lived to be 85 or so but another railroader here in town died on his way to cash his first pension cheque. Ya never know!!!
