I have photos of 8400 & 8401 in passenger service at Montreal West in 1950.
Unfortunately, the train # was not noted. Consist is the same on both trains.

an interesting issue. Given all the extensive discussions that have appeared both here and on the B&M forum about motive-power assignments on the CPR's Lyndonville Sub I can't recall any

where one of these RS-2s was documented hauling a passenger train.
I
presume the CPR ordered these units with gennies so that they could provide backup power on passenger trains if needed. Does anyone

if they were ever used for this?

According to Dean and Hanna's diesel book, it would appear that they were on the Newport-Montreal local trains 213/214 after arrival. There is a photo on page 30 showing 8404 hauling 213 on Oct. 18, 1949. The caption also mentions that the first diesel powered train to arrive at Windsor station was 213 the previous month.

Since the three 1800 class E8's did not arrive until December of that year, the RS2's must have been the power for the two locals until then. I would think that they filled in for the 1800's from time to time if one of the latter were in the shop.
