The question about whether the signal lights are painted, appears to mean,
what colour are the exteriors of the light units painted (black, silver or
silver with black targets), not whether the colours of the signal lights are
achieved with red, yellow and green paint.

Guys i have the CP drawings for single, double and tripple signal
lights.Not an engineer and its not easy reading them.I am using the
measurements with oregon kits. My question is the single target is used on a
12 or 16 ft mast................when do you use one or the other?
Am just going from memory here... The higher one is used where there is
one or more intervening track(s) between the signal and the trk
governed, w/o the cantilever or bracket structure; and other places
where the lower standard could impede the signals' visibility, such as
seasonal growth (vegetation).
Second question 50 through mid 60s what colour would the signal lights be
painted.............black , silver or silver with black targets????.
Signal lights weren't painted. Their intended colours are achieved thru
the use of different coloured lens(es) or translucent inserts between
the light and lens. These inserts rotate in the head of a searchlight
(or similar) signal; and lenses themselves move by rod thru an arc of up
to 90° on semaphores, the limits whereof are preset. The actual number
of degrees for the semaphore arc depends on whether the semaphore blade
is travelling an upper or lower quadrant.
Bases would they be on a concrete pad?
Yes, except on bridge structures; the bridge bases themselves are on
concrete pads.
Lastly the ladders are they positioned behind the target or off to the
side??. Sorry for the loaded question but since i have the technical
drawings i may as well do them up best as i can. Should be a nice project.

Off to the side only where opposing signals are mounted front to front.
It's what some would call "back to back" forgetting that a signal aspect
is displayed to the back of a signal; and a train stopping short of its
signal is really "behind" the signal.
