Some boxes were straight aluminum (or stainless?) to match the Canadian ( I own
one of these). Not sure about the period before 1955 though.

We received a question in the mail and I don’t know the answer myself.
Would anyone know how the CPR passenger car step boxes were painted? Were
they brass sides or painted some colour? Does time period matters? Perhaps an
outline of that would be useful.
