This is intended for railfans. Railroaders familiar with UCOR
might want to wait 24 hours before replying.
Situation: You are engineer on a regular passenger train operating under UCOR
in non-CTC territory.
All is normal until suddenly you spot a yellow over red flag.
You reduce speed preparing to stop at a red flag ahead.
What is the FIRST thing you do?
Secondary: You have no orders covering this unexpected
situation. Why not?
and now, the exploded view...
I see a contradiction in terms. Separate the qualifications between railfans
and Railroaders... and those familiar with UCOR...
Who's signing my paycheck/paycheque?
How much do I get?
Is a pension involved?
My first reaction or suggestion is to stop the train. And then ask a reliable
person what it means.
Can I depart the train without incident?
Who's running the show?
Paraphrased... "A regular passenger train under UCOR in non-CTC, normal, then
yellow over red, reduce speed preparing to stop at a red flag ahead..."
When is the First thing executed? You're asking a loaded question with plenty
of "already-performed" actions.
Direct the question specifically at the point where the conductor goes blind,
right?
Is he conducting the train's ability or performance?
I think a railfan would be taking pictures of the controls and perhaps making a
video, it's gonna be on YouTube, right?
If you are setting the stage, you also seem to be providing the popcorn, jube
jubes, sticky soda...
Are you directing this question to an optimist or pessimist? Has the conductor
taken the two year course or the truncated one year course, since there seems
to be a shortage in seasoned "railroaders" and an excess in retirements?
I have read responses by other people who seem to have the right answer... but,
then again, to which is this scenario directed to? Professional novices or
novice professionals?
Is this a survey? How many points will be entitled to the lucky winner and
educated scholar?
OR, was/is this a rhetorical question?
OR, Am I on Candid Camera? (do you really wanna go there?)
This is my exhaustive inquiry.
Sorry for taking your time.
