shows CPR 8906 coupled to a B&M caboose at White River Junction in
1966. This is the first I've heard of CPR F-M's on the Newport Sub, or
east of Montreal, for that matter. Was this unusual, or have I just
not been paying attention?

8900 was tested on No 42 into St John NB in 1955. There is a photo on
P5 of Canadian Pacific in the East by Omer Lavallee (BRMNA book). I
would not be surprised if Train Masters worked east of Montreal as CP
could get very short of power, especially during the winter grain rush.
