Julian;
I agree with what everyone has said. CPR Tuscan is very hard to model. ALL
colours change ( weather) over time caused by various factors of the elements -
sunshine, temperature, harsh pollutants in the air (eg. soot), and cleaning
compounds. I've also seen how a colour photograph can be manipulated to give
almost any hue of a colour desired. Also lighting for model railroads is far
different than outdoor light no matter how bright or dull the day is.
One good CP Tuscan model paint to use is Scalecoat. The only problem is
getting it into Canada, as it is solvent based. I've used it (along with some
good friends) for most of my CP passenger and motive power. If you want to
lighten it slightly from the bottle, you need to mix orange with it. Years ago
Floquil did make a CPR Maroon colour, but sadly they disappeared. When the
motive power and passenger cars were done in Tuscan, there was always a variety
in shades as equipment aged from the paint shop. Years ago I spoke with
someone in the paint lab in Weston Shops (Winnipeg) and they told me the
colours might have shifted as they hadn't been refrigerated! They were only
able to give me spectrometer readings for the diesel gray and yellow. They
didn't have any tuscan. Just be aware, the steam gray is slightly darker than
the diesel gray.
What you've got looks fine. The decal colour looks like a freshly painted shade
while your tender looks like one that's been around a bit.
Keep up the good work!

Hi everyone,
I am in the process of decalling a Van Hobbies CP Hudson (2816) using black cat
decals. However, I noticed that, although they say they are Tuscan, they look
very dark maroon. When I look at pictures on line the side boards and tender
sides are definitely Tuscan red not deep maroon like the black cat decals.
Can anyone shed some light on this as I have done half the engine and can’t
help thinking it looks wrong.
Thanks
Julian
