CP and CN never owned any 3/2 cars.

I looked in my book "Travel Pullman a Century of Service" by Joe welsh and
Bill Howes. It appears that many of the cars were modified and some were
made into "Solarium" cars. The open platform was taken off and the end
closed in, on some the platform was left on but was sharply abbreviated.
B&O, Pensy, Great Northern and Northern pacific had them in there secondary
trains after the 1947 streamliners started operation. I don't know what CP
and CN did as I haven't found anything on those two.
Sorry guys, hope it helps someone.

Yes, I believe all the 3-2 obs cars had open platforms originally. They
were used on the Overland Route, Santa Fe, Golden State, Crescent and I'm
pretty sure on other routes, generally on the top trains.

Do you know if these cars had the extra room added while still on the

>>> I'm guessing they did, Don. These cars were built in 1929, ACed in
1934, rebuilt in 1937. There were six cars in all. FWIW, Wayner
indicates one of them was sold in the '50s to a circus as I recall. I
wonder how long that car survived.
BTW, the rebuilding apparently did a lot more than add a sleeping
room. By strange coincidence I happen to have a reduced-scale copy of
the Pullman floorplan for the rebuilt cars (acquired decades ago as
part of a package of material purchased from someone). It shows the
lounge end as being completely enclosed. Without checking I'm pretty
sure the original 3-2 cars had a traditional open-platform obs end.
