If you havenât yet been back there to see, we lost one of the redbuds that
were the centerpieces of the mosaic garden. It was the single-trunked one in
the smaller of the two sections. The ground got so soft that the lean of the
tree finally overcame the hold of the roots, and once it got going the weight
of the tree cracked at the base of the trunk. We are waiting until Monday to
remove it so as to not pay emergency rates.
We will replace it with another redbud in the fall! The tree hasnât yet
damaged anything more than one of the nandinas that I planted back there. It
was broken off but will grow back just fine. No telling what the tree-removal
folks might manage to take out!
At least all of this rain does have an upside. Everything is soaked good and
the water table is refilled. And the tree-bags fillers can skip a round!
