Hello Everyone,
This What Is thread is still ruminating within me...and now on the
subject of blind loyalties, obedience and so on. Early on, while insisting on
the Orders of Love, Bert also severely cautioned us as to the consequences of
blind loyalty to anyone or anything ever. Fascism and other power driven
and religious cults have made this clear throughout history. This can be
understandably confusing, especially for new comers. Have we not, at least
in the early days of the work, been cautioned by Bert of the
personal, family, tribal and national consequences of blind loyal obedience,
(Third Reich
and other former and currently existing, totalitarian regimes ) which can
and does lead to violence and worse and still the Orders of Love, for me,
at least, are valid.
As I understand this, a willingness to surrender to "something greater "
arises from someplace deep within and not as a result of brow-beating,
shaming, microphone clobbering, coercion.
In my own work and teaching I have found that the criteria for a successful
session lies with the condition of the client, not with the facilitator's,
often self-serving analysis, especially when the session doesn't work and
the client is blamed. Truth is, that a lack of success may also have to do
with the facilitators lack of experience and necessary skill especially in
countering the incredibly complex aspects of individual, family, tribal,
national and global trauma, which is intrinsic to all of our work within our
very own human condition.Unsuccessful outcomes, do happen and also provide
us with rich opportunities for growth and learning. The intervention on the
video in question was unsuccessful, informative and not the fault of the
clearly overwhelmed client.
