Many thanks for your question Auber on, and responses from others.
I have had delightful outcomes working with children using felt mats. On a
number of occasions
having parents set up the family system and then the children. Two very
memorable occasions come
to mind for sharing. A boy of 11/12 would not go anywhere for sleep over's,
school camps etc he was afraid
something would happen to his parents, have a panic attack and need to come
home. He set up his constellation,
and after setting up the members he found the smaller off cuts of felt I had
in my basket and he scattered these smaller
pieces around over everyone. When asked what this represented it was his
brother that had died before he was born,
His mother I knew thro counselling was still mourning this loss.
Another young boy a school truant, had been cautioned by police, on the
verge of going into Juvenile Justice System was
pretty much dragged into my rooms and would not talk except to cuss and
swear that this, I and his mother were stupid.
The deal was if he would just hang around for half an hour he didn't have to
do anything and could go home. I did a
brief interview with his mother asked her to set up what she felt was
happening in the family now with the felt mats. At first
slupped in his chair within moments he sat up alert watching starting to
comment then stood wanting to re arrange what his mother
had set up (he was totally engaged) when I said if you have something to add
you need to wait and then have a turn yourself he simply could not
wait. Very interesting for the mother to see where he placed his father who
was and had been in gaol for the past few years for
violence against her. She and I exchanged a smile to see this 14 year old
street savvy kid get totally involved with the process.
All the best,

Subject: [ConstellationTalk] RE: Constellation work with children
I am a recent member of constellation talk and so I am not sure what has
been covered in the recent past and whether the issue I am interested in has
been considered before. There is a question I would like to raise. Is it
feasible to do constellation work with children?? I am considering working
with children whose parents have died and I am wondering whether emotional
field work of the constellation type is do-able with people who are very
young. I would be very interested to hear what other people's opinions are
on this and whether anyone has worked with children in this way.
Auberon Finch.
