Thank you Alison for your response. And thank you Rosabelle, Anngwyn and
Janne for your responses, I have really appreciated learning of and from
other's experiences in this area.
I live in Lewes in England. Every year on bonfire night (5th November) the
town has a celebration to remember 17 protestant martyrs who were burnt at
the stake a few hundred years ago. It is a really big event. Hundreds and
hundreds of people parade through the town in costume, prayers are said to
remember people and the event brings the whole town together. In fact the
community pretty much spends the whole year preparing for it.
Presumably when the processions first started they were in genuine mouning
and arose from a hideous tragedy and when many, many people were caught up
in something larger than themselves. Now the processions are a fantastic
event and serve to maintain the community's strong sense of itself. It
seems to me a really good example of "I will remember you and create
something good from your suffering."

Dear Liz, Anngwyn, Janne and Rosabelle,
Thanks so much for your sharing! My concerns have been transformed: I'm
aware of how my fears made this "my" suffering (as in "you scare me, I'm
suffering, so let me get rid of you"), but reading your posts, I see that
bringing ease to the soul energies in the house is a way to care for them,
and by extension for the larger community. So it's a transformation of fear
into compassion! Lovely!
I meet with the group this evening and will take up the issue with them. At
this point, I will still seek outside guidance for this, unless I get a
clear sense that this is my work.
Of course, if any folks on the list are in the New York/Hudson Valley area
and want to come visit and work with me, you're invited!
With joined palms,
Alison
