The new device is probably USB 2 and if the board is very old it's probably USB 1. Also, I don't know if they ever fixed it, but VIA chipsets for USB were so bad that hardly anything but a mouse would work with them. I had to put in a USB expansion card on a new PC about a year ago because the USB on the MB wouldn't work with a device called PhoneTree. It's a gadget that automatically calls patients from a database to remind them of appointments. If you have a VIA chipset or your USB is outdated try a card. They're not very expensive. -- Hal Brown mailto: hal@xxxxxxxx http://adwt.com --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Computer Talk Shop http://www.computertalkshop.com Un-subscribe/Vacation, http://szaroconsulting.com/cts/list_options.htm List HowTo: http://szaroconsulting.com/cts/faq To join Computer Talk Shop's off topic list, please goto: http://szaroconsulting.com/cts/other_cts_lists.htm --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------
