Once in a while it will but version 9 seems to run OK. Everyday it is
checked to see if the backup passed of failed. As long as the backup
completes, I have not had a problem restoring.

Use Veritas Backup Exec with 2yr maint and updates. Good thing as we already made several calls that would have gone over that cost. Is much better. Here and there an issue, but smokes our old system. (CA ArcServe which would work once every week or so if lucky.)
Watch BackupExec *very* carefully and test your backups regularly. Our Windows people used it for about 2 years before finally giving up on it. It was terribly unreliable, apparently.
