You know it might be good to create a website of questionable ebay sale scans
as lord know s there are a lot of them along with documentation that people
have made questioning authenticity. These ebay forgeries are a toxic bomb
waiting to blow up later on the legit sketches and drawings that have been done
and are collected.
And increasingly they are getting a lot better.
When cleaning out the files, I recently found a letter from Herge related to
the sketch he did for the guy who I got it from. My original impulse was to
sell it as I can get some good money for the letter. Thinking about it I
decided to instead bag it and attach it to the back of the framed Herge sketch
for documentation later whenever I dispose of the Sketch. Likewise I found an
ad from Gary Coddington with my Shuster Superman drawing in it- add is now in a
bag and attached to the back of the frame. I see potential headaches down the
pike due to ebay feeling no liability for forgeries similar to Amazon
facilitating knock offs and bootlegs on major brands.

Hi everyone
Following up on that fake Simonson, I'm sad to report that it sold despite my
contacting the seller and receiving a reply from him thanking me. Obviously he
knew what he was selling and kept the auction up.
So if it pops up somewhere, other than CAF or art dealers' sites, I would
advise to inform the buyer.
Best,Fred

Subject: [comicart-l] FYI on Simonson Thor on ebay
Hi All,
I saw a Simonson Thor on ebay that just seemed a little off.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Walt-Simonson-Thor-Sketch-Signed/254828506999?hash=item3b54f66f77:g:AxcAAOSwbYJf977j
I managed to reach Simonson and this is was his reply:
I can't be sure, but I think this isn't by me. Some of it looks like lines I
might draw. I'm inclined to think it's a copy of one of my sketches. The
signature in particular does not look like mine, especially on the right side.
So I'm not 100% certain, but it seems unlikely
It doesn't help that the same seller also has a Kirby Darkseid and a Jerry
Robinson Joker (not my area of expertise but often faked as we all know)
