Dear NIS/MMP Data Users:
The New Immigrant Survey team is pleased to announce the public release of
a subset of the data on Mexican immigrants included in the Round 1 and Round 2
surveys. The baseline interviews were carried out in 2003-2004 with 1,165
Mexican adult immigrants, 99 parents of sampled Mexican child immigrants, and
683 spouses of sampled immigrants. Round 2 interviews were carried out from
June 2007 to December 2009 and successfully located 636 of the original adult
respondents, 52 parents, and 285 spouses. Although all located respondents are
included in the Round 2 data file, users should be aware that only 557 adults,
44 parents, and 280 spouses completed the entire survey, yielding significant
missing data depending on when the interview broke off.
The Mexico NIS 2003 public data files are accessible through the data link
on the NIS website and are available in SAS, STATA, and SPSS formats at
http://nis.princeton.edu/data.html#Public_data. Users who have registered ;
already do not need to register again, just need to log in with username and
password to download the datasets.
The documentation that accompanies the Mexico NIS 2003 Round 1 and Round 2
public data is hosted at: http://nis.princeton.edu/documentation.html. The ;
documentation under NIS Mexico includes questionnaires, codebooks, and file
contents for both rounds. The documentation that accompanies the NIS 2003-1
and NIS 2003-2 public data is applicable for the Mexican Population of the NIS.
The documentation includes, among others, roster reference codes, currency
conversion manuals, picklists, sampling weights, etc.
