Hi Ron. I would be quite interested to know what kind of discount the St.
Paul Companies would be willing to extend to financial specialists in
particular, working in or outside a collaborative environment. Having spent
the last few months searching high and low for a carrier other than the
Cambridge Alliance to no avail (which covers many independent financial
planners who work in the divorce arena), it would be a welcome breath of
fresh air to have another underwriter get involved in this market. As many
financial specialists work both on a collaborative basis as well as
financial advocates, it would be important that any discounted coverage
extended was not limited to only collaborative cases, however. Thanks for

Subject: [CollabLaw] Reduction on Professional Liability Insurance for
Collaborative Professionals
Hello Everyone and Happy New Year.
I have arranged a meeting with some executives at St. Paul Companies
to discuss the possbility of their offering discounted professional
liability, (malpractice) insurance for collaborative professionals.
So far they seem very interested in working with us and I want to
gather as much information as possible to help make this happen. I
know this has been discussed on the listserve before, so I would
like to get an update from anyone who has knowledge on this subject.
Specifically, I would like to know the following:
1) Has anyone had any success getting a professional liability
carrier to provide a discount for collaborative professionals?
2) Is anyone aware of any professional liability claims ever having
been made against a collaborative professional? (I have heard
rumours of a claim or two but I do not know if a claim has ever been
documented.)
3) Have any of you gathered any other information that would be
helpful in my presentation to St. Paul Companies? (I will be
gathering information in the next three weeks but want to start by
building on any information that we already have).
St. Paul Companies is one of the largest providers of Professional
Liabiliy Insurance in North America. I think their willingness to
provide a discount for Collaborative Professionals would help us in
many ways. In addition to the obvious fact that it could save us
all some money, I think it can help the collaborative movement
grou. I will give us additional credibility in the legal community
and may help recruit new members since the savings could offset
theri membership costs. I would appreciate any help I can get on
this and I will, of course, keep everyone posted on what comes of
this effort.
