I received a few questions about the on-line support program for separated
dads, developed and being researched by PhD candidate, Shelly Mahon. She offers
this additional information:
The program was written from a very neutral position, focusing on men's
adjustment and parenting after divorce. The goal of the program is to leave
fathers empowered to be in their children's lives, regardless of the
circumstances of their divorce. While there is only one week dedicated fully to
co-parenting, the tone of the entire program is to foster cooperation and
collaboration with the ex-partner and to keep children out of the middle of the
divorce. The program is grounded in several bodies of research such as men's
adjustment to divorce, effective communication and parenting strategies, being
an engaged parent (both instrumentally and emotionally), and using of
technology for program delivery. In addition to my doctoral committee, I have
been collaborating with other experts in the field who have written
evidence-based programs like Children in the Middle and Parenting Wisely.
I hope that helps. Feel free to contact me directly if you would like to
discuss the program in more detail. There is also a syllabus of the 12 week
program on the newsletter site (www.divorceddadinstitute.com/newsletter).
