Darcy, all,
That's why I chose not to include it originally. I didn't want this to
be 'about' this particular site. I had hoped we would keep focused on what
WE need to do to convey a clear image of the values and intentions and
attitudes of CP.
That said, I do see that there is value in actually seeing that there
are those who do not describe what we do in terms that quite match our
own. One website may be just one website, but my guess would be that
there are others. Perhaps some that are even more unflattering.
I did not consider this one to be outrageous. More, I thought of it
as....well, he's marketing Mediation. What's he going to say? that there
isn't much difference between the two? That what he is NOT selling will
get you a better result?
What I did see is a chance to look at ourselves as others are 'seeing'
us. And to see where we might improve upon what we are saying about
ourselves.

To your last point, Morris, the Academy of Professional Family
Mediators—formed last year by former leaders of the Academy of Family
Mediators—is diligently working on the issue of accreditation for
professional family mediators recognizing that a number of states already
set accreditation standards and that these tend to be driven by bar
associations with a decidedly narrow focus on facilitative, consensual
negotiating processes. Following our enormously successful founding
conference last year, APFM has organized a task force of members from
across North America and Europe to work on standards of practice and
certification as it would be designed by practicing professional mediators
