The first-ever advanced collaborative family law training to be offered by
the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine Law School will
take place on June 19-21, at the campus of Pepperdine Law School in Malibu,
California. I am writing to suggest that you consider attending this event.
The Straus Institute is considered by many to be the foremost dispute
resolution teaching and study program in North America. Their semi-annual
professional skills programs (in June at the Malibu campus and in October in
Woodstock, Vermont) bring together leading dispute resolution trainers from
North America for two and one half days of intensive skills training in
mediation --and now, for the first time, in advanced collaborative law.
The quality of this program is topnotch. David Fink will co-train with me
in this Advanced Collaborative Family Law course. We believe this is the
first-ever opportunity to work intensively with a small group of highly
experienced collaborative legal practitioners over a period of two and one
half days. In the evening, the program includes meals and opportunities to
socialize on campus with trainers and practitioners from around the world
who are participating in this and the other dispute resolution seminars and
workshops being offered as part of the June Professional Skills Program.
Our Advanced Collaborative Family Law course will offer eighteen units of
continuing legal education credit and certified family law specialist
credit, including credits in legal ethics and in psychological and
counseling aspects of family law. Enrollment will be strictly limited, and
all participants are expected to have substantial prior case experience in
collaborative law. In addition to presentation and video material, there
will be substantial roleplaying as well as seminar-style discussion and case
conferencing. We expect the learning environment to be intense, highest
quality, and very enjoyable.
The Pepperdine campus at Malibu must surely be a top contender for the most
beautiful law school campus on the planet. It occupies a coastal hillside
overlooking the Pacific Coast Highway and the beaches of Malibu, about a
twenty minute drive north of Santa Monica/Los Angeles. The facilities are
first-rate.
If you want to take your understandings and skills to a new level, or to
practice advanced techniques and skills with experienced colleagues from a
broad range of communities and legal cultures, this course is for you.
