Devi, I'm using 16.04 and in the software center there are 2 different
audacity downloads, one is orange and one is yellow. The reason I bring it
up is that you all say that anything in the software center has been
"tested." But the yellow one, which I installed after purging the orange
one, gives a weird error message that doesn't allow you to record--
something about being set before zero, So, here is a case where the 'safe'
app does not work properly. Why is there 2 versions of the same app? screen

audacity yourself and then you can install it... giving you complied it
successfully. Otherwise you need to use the newest version or find someone
else who is compiling older versions still..
