REMINDER: This Saturday, August 14, is the annual Perseids Meteor Shower Camp-Out at the Caesar Creek Beach. Now, this is the one event you should plan to make each summer! When the weather is decent, we've seen over 200-300 campers and upwards of 20 or more telescopes. The park has programs planned for the camping kids and adults from 7:00-11:00, including an astronomy presentation again this year at 8:45 by myself and Mike Smith of CAS. The park also allows camping on the beach grounds this one night of the year. COME ON OUT! Please note: THE TELESCOPE AREA WILL BE JUST NORTH OF THE RESTROOMS/PAVILLION, IN THE GRASS, NEAR THE SERVICE AREA THAT IS ENCLOSED BY THE WHITE FENCING. Here's the "official" release on this event from the Park's own website. "7 - 11 PM at the main beach . Bring chairs/blankets . Register for free camping on the beach . Games, crafts & stargazing with telescopes . For more information call 513-897-2437 " Some additional information excerpted from past years' programs: The programs will be held even if it's overcast. - Tents can be set up Saturday on the north lawn (to the left of the pavilions), RVs must remain in the parking lots. - No cars are allowed on the sidewalks, so plan to carry-in & carry-out your gear. The only exceptions will be the astronomy clubs with their huge telescopes. Folks setting up and helping with telescopes should plan to drive back the service drive (marked by a white swing-to gate) to the restrooms, then around to the telescope area. THE TELESCOPE AREA WILL BE JUST NORTH OF THE RESTROOMS/PAVILLION, IN THE GRASS, NEAR THE SERVICE AREA THAT IS ENCLOSED BY THE WHITE FENCING. - No charcoal grills allowed. The campfire on the sand beach will be lit about 8:00pm and will burn late into the night for roasting treats. - Please have your tents down by 9:30am Sunday morning for the beach crowd's return. - Remember your red flashlights, sleeping bags, lawn chairs/blankets for seating, evening snacks and morning breakfast food. Be prepared for morning dew.
