Mine is marked 07-50-00189 OTH003 6/91 on the first disk, and the  00189 is 
replaced by different numbers, not all consecutive, on the other disks.

Mine works in Windows 3.1. I never tried it in 3.11, but (as I remember) at 
least parts of it worked in Windows 95. But it's almost certainly a step down 
from Version 3.  

As for copying vs. installing, I don't think there's much that's mysterious 
about installations in Win 3.x. For one thing, I think Norton Desktop would 
work without installation, just copied. If it's to replace Program Manager, 
there should be a shell= line in system.ini naming Norton Desktop instead of 
progman.exe. Anything else you might need would be either in one or more .ini 
files in the \windows directory or in win.ini and/or system.ini.
