Hey Zach.
I've been saying it all along.
To bad thee isn't a calculator and or web page or program that would allow you to do the following:
1. tell the program the name of the aircraft you'll be flying.
2. type in the winds which I always fly real winds.
3. most importantly type in the ICAO info for both the departing and arrival airports.
What you would get from the above info would be your optimum level cruising alt.
So you would know at what alt you should be flying at.
Now I found the following.
https://airplanemanager.com/FlightCalculator.aspx
It gives you the above information, but it gives inaccurate information.
Here is a example of what I'm talking about.
I'll plan a flight from my home based FBO of Erie Intl which is KERI down to my friends in Harrisburg which is east south east of me and their ICAO info is KMDT.
See if you can find the errors since I'll be flying east south east.
Departing Airport: ERIE INTLTOM RIDGE FIELD
Arrival Airport: HARRISBURG INTL
Estimated Distance: 192 nm
Estimated Time: 0 hours 37 min
Altitude: 18000 ft.
Avg Heading: 235°
Avg Windspeed: 106 kts

Now, did you pick out the errors from KERI down to KMDT? SMILES.
Now, here's what you see when flying back from KMDT back to KERI.
I now should be given a even cruising alt.
Departing Airport: HARRISBURG INTL
Arrival Airport: ERIE INTLTOM RIDGE FIELD
Estimated Distance: 192 nm
Estimated Time: 0 hours 48 min
Altitude: 18000 ft.
Avg Heading: 235°
Avg Windspeed: 106 kts

Now this would be the perfect web site to use to plan flights from if it would give out accurate information for the flight plan.
To wate your breath.
I've tried over and over to point out the errors to both the people behind the web page and to Google maps as well.
And as you can see, the web page is still giving out the wrong information.
Now my question is this.
Maybe Robert can answer it.
Let use the KERI to KMDT flight plan for my example for my question.
The flight planning web site my not be one hundred percent accurate, but it give a rule of thumb to set one's level cruising optimum level cruising alt at.
But I usually would set the level cruising alt from KERI to KMDT about 210 FT. Then for my return flight to KERI I would set it at 180 FT.
Now my question is this, when you're return to your original destination, or flying from where ever you started from, should the return flight be higher or lower than the original destination.
So in short, when flying back to KERI should it be at 180 or say maybe as high as 240?
Many Thanks and here's hoping that we can get the above web page to start giving out accurate information.
Because,
1. its free.
2. its one hundred percent blind friendly via jaws or probably any other screen reader.
Hope this helps my fellow BVI Pilots out.
Ron

Daniel,

To be honest, those errors can probably be safely ignored. There are plenty of online flight creators, such as www.simbrief.com, though that is geared towards airliners and has a ton of fairly advanced options. THere is a setting in the PF3 which will ignore those waypoint errors, and I recommend using it.

THe FSX planner isn’t too bad, though it doesn’t incorporate SIDS and STARS, which might or might not matter to you depending on how realistic you want to get.
Best,
Zack.

Hi all,
I'm getting started with PF3, and keep getting errors with waypoints ETC.
Does anyone know of a good flight plan creator for fsx, bessides the
default one?
Thanks,

Daniel
