Tyler,
In my experience, you can put “no Sids/stars,” in your flight plan remarks, to
avoid being assigned them by ATC. IYP is able to fly you along a GPS route,
which will be sufficient for when you get on course. Also, if you fly with an
alternative program, such as FSXPilot, it might have SID/Star support.
SIDs/Stars are written in textual format, and sometimes the directions are
relatively easy to follow with the aid of IYP. Approach plates are not, but the
solution there is to probably either request a visual approach or something
with ILS.
Hope this helps somewhat,
Zack.

So...I've been doing a lot of reading in the VATSIM PRC. And a lot of this
has me concerned, because so much of what they talk about refers to flying
with the aid of charts and being able to read them to figure out how to fly
various SIDs/STARs, proper approach procedures, and so forth. How does a BVI
pilot manage to do all of this effectively? Or can IYP help in this regard?

Also note though, I believe you have to use exact terminology, or they won't
recognize you. This may also require more speech recognition training as
well.

Hi,
Yes that's correct.
You would turn off the speech recognizition by pressing the control and
windows key together and letting them go after you say to Michell, go to
whatever the clearence delivery frequency is.
Depending on whatever your push to talk key is in squawkbox, that's what
you would use to talk to ATC.
I hope this helps.

John Sanders

Hi,
Thanks for the hints. I was able to get Squawkbox working by installing
the four different SimConnect versions found in $(FSX_PATH)\SDK\Core
Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK. Now it starts up just fine, and I will try
flying on Vatsim the next time I do a flight. How do we work with the IYP
checklists in combination with VATSIM ATC coverage? For instance, when
Mike asks, "Request IFR clearance," would I just figure out the origin
airport's clearance delivery frequency, tune to it by saying "Set COM1 to
<frequency>," then communicate with ATC and say "We have the clearance"
when they give it? Sorry for all the questions...I'm just not used to
flying online!

Tyler,
PilotEdge has its own client, which seems to be based on Squawkbox. The
“side by side configuration,” error is because of the weird
Steam/simconnect interaction, if I recall. There are a couple different
versions of SC you can try installing, in the FSX\SDKs folder, I believe.
Sorry I can’t be more help, I’m not in front of my Windows machine at the
moment.
Good luck,
Zack.

Which client do you use, Zack? I just tried downloading and installing
SquawkBox, but it won't run with FSX Steam Edition. It complains about
being unable to find SimConnect, even though it's definitely there. It's
looking for Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect, version 10.0.60905,
according to the SXSTrace output I generated. When I tried to run SB, it
complained that it failed to start because the side-by-side
configuration was incorrect. Using FSX Steam Edition and Windows 10,
with UAC turned off.

John and All,
I don’t fly on Vatsim, but have flown several times on PilotEdge. The
controllers there are very understanding of the IYP taxi procedure. I
place a bit into the remarks of my flight plan that I’m blind, and
unable to taxi, and that’s that.
I’m not trying to sell you on one network over the other, by any means.
PE does have the disadvantage of being a subscription service. But the
ATC coverage is top notch and guaranteed during service hours.
Best,
Zack.

Hi,
You will need to download squawkbox.
I'm currently writing a manual on how to install it and download it.
And also connecting to the vatsim network.
I hope to hear from you soon.

How do you fly on VATSIM, John? I tried downloading VPilot, and found
it hard to use with JAWS. Ended up uninstalling it, as I couldn't
even get the rule sets downloaded.

Hi my name is John Sanders.
I just joined this list.
I've been using ItsYourPlane for awhile.
I have a question: I'm part of this virtual airline called
deltavirtual airlines.
www.deltavirtual.org
I'm a hub manager for Minneapolis St. Paul airport.
I do alot of flying on the vatsim network.
Every time I taxie my aircraft to the runway; either by telling
Michell, "taxie to and hold short of runway 22 left", or, "taxie to
runway 22 left", the people whom I'm flying with would say that I'm
on the runway and I'm not holding short of the runway.
Is there a way that ItsYourPlane could have the aircraft not be
right on the runway line?
Could ItsYourPlane have the aircraft be back at the holding point
marker?
I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
John Sanders
