Several people have asked if we could run a Boat Handling Course again so I
have looked at the possibilities based on tides and diary availability for
myself and Julian (who are the 2 qualified instructors). The course takes 2
days and has about 4 hours "classroom" stuff and about 11 hours practical
experience with the boat on the water. The proposal is to do it over one
weekend with the indoor stuff at our place in Littlehampton so that we can
walk to and from the marina for the outdoor bits. BSAC only allow 4
students per 2 instructors to ensure that everyone gets a reasonable amount
of time actually handling the boat for variety of exercises and conditions.
The ideal weekend from a tide point of view is 4/5 Mar. The weekends of
11/12 Mar and 8/9 April may possibly be doable but have some restrictions on
launch and recovery times. All dates will, of course, be weather dependant
but, unlike diving, calm conditions are not good as we need some rougher
conditions for experience! I attach a Doodle for anyone interested to
complete to give me an idea of who is interested. Those who have already
told me they want to do the course will get priority.
