Hey all, Heard 2 Indigo Bunting flight calls when walking out the door at
7 this morning. Headed north quickly afterward, I began listening after
rolling slowly onto Viking at La3/ Benton Rd, then parked just w of there
along the rr tracks. I could hear BAOR, warbler and INBU flight calls as
they were moving over before I exited the vehicle. I got out and started my
count then, noting groups to north of Tennessee Warblers, also one
Nashville (another NAWA later in pecans a mile away), then a female OROR
moved over with a group of 6 Indigo Bunting, then 6 male Baltimore Oriole,
then others of the same. The birds were climbing and moving n leaving a
dense riparian thicket bordering the tracks about .1 mile south. A train
sitting stationary .2 miles miles to the n, then slowly moving s during the
middle of survey, didn't help. I began walking .4 miles around and through
this smallish wood-lot, which I haven't birded in some years. There were a
few new arrivals, including 3 Chestnut-sided, 2 Magnolia and 1 American
Redstart- all ad males. There were lots of Tennessee Warblers, a few B-t
Green and 3 ad male Blackburnian and an Ovenbird. The trees were "working
alive" with avian life! Thrushes still notably absent. Of the 15 +,- spp of
warbler for the rd today, most- except Prothonotary and N Waterthrush were
found here. Another push of R-b Grosbeak noted also- but none seen in past
couple of days at apt during very brief checks at feeders.
Also found fos White-rumped Sandpiper and a late Merlin along the route to
n of I-220, not long after the warbler fall-out and movement - got
digi-scoped pics of Merlin. WAY behind entering lists but will share lists
w pics once I do. Spp list for 3 hours along the 2.1 mile route (including
Cunningham property at n end) -was 80- or possibly more!
