Hi all, Spring migration, at least in terms of neotropical songbirds, is
finally but SLOWLY starting toheat up here in N-w La.

Red River National Wildlife Refuge- Headquarters Unit, Bossier, US-LA
Apr 19, 2013 6:10 AM - 10:30 AM
Protocol: Traveling
1.7 mile(s)
Comments:     1 observer, 4 hrs, 20 mins, ~ 1.7 miles. 40 degrees, clear, wind
8-10 N-w beginning, then to 12-15 mph shortly after with calmer breaks, then
steady near end.
An early morning planting job got rained out the day before so I decided to
make the best of it at RRNWR HQ. I arrived at the entrance gate to listen for
caprimulgids at 0540. Having no luck there, I began at 0610 at the pier over
the lake, scoping and listened there for an hour or so. Other than myriads of
whirling Tree Swallow and a few waterbirds, the lake was extremely slow. I then
birded the trail to N from the visitor's center to the rd toward back just N of
Scott Dickson's place, then circled back S on East side of Levee back to
visitor's center. From there, I took the Lake Bluff trail South, then turning
right on the Chocolate trail for approx .2 miles. There were some fair counts
of a few migrants but overall the wind and frontal situation kept things rather
slow.
