BIRD STUDY GROUP I went to Lost Bayou Bottom this morning hoping to find an American Bittern but struck out. Did find a Fox Sparrow, a reasonably hard bird to find in this area. Still it was a nice trip - see ebird report below. I even got a ride out from the escarpment on a Forest Service ATV because they were going to do a selective burn and could start until I left! I still have at least one Red-breasted Nuthatch in my yard on the east side of Cotile Lake and a modest number of Pine Siskins. Could not detect any goldfinches in my yard or at Lost Bayou Bottom. Had a single Barn Swallow and two Tree Swallows at the rookery area at the Hoyt Road Causeway on Cotile Lake's NW arm. A list of today's birds follows. Jay Huner - Wood Duck - Mallard - Blue-winged Teal - Ring-necked Duck - Lesser Scaup - Ruddy Duck - Double-crested Cormorant - Anhinga - Great Blue Heron - Turkey Vulture - Red-shouldered Hawk - Red-tailed Hawk - Forester's Tern - Mourning Dove - Inca Dove - Barred Owl - Red-bellied Woodpecker - Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - Northern Flicker - Pileated Woodpecker - Loggerhead Shrike - Blue Jay - American Crow - Fish Crow - Tree Swallow - Barn Swallow - Carolina Chickadee - Tufted Titmouse - House Wren - Carolina Wren - Red-breasted Nuthatch - Brown-headed Nuthatch - Eastern Bluebird - Hermit Thrush - Amercan Robin - Northern Mockingbird - Brown Thrasher - Pine Warbler - Yellow-rumped Warbler - Chipping Sparrow - Fox Sparrow - Song Sparrow - Swamp Sparrow - White-throated Sparrow - Dark-eyed Junco - Northern Cardinal - Red-winged Blackbird - House Finch - Pine Siskin ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: piku1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx To: jvh0660@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, March 1, 2013 2:27:55 PM Subject: Re: eBird Report - Lost Bayou Bottoms, Mar 1, 2013 ---- do-not-reply@xxxxxxxxx wrote: > Lost Bayou Bottoms, Rapides, US-LA > Mar 1, 2013 9:00 AM - 10:45 AM > Protocol: Traveling > 2.25 mile(s) > Comments: Really beautiful, clear, cold morning. 10-15 MPH wind from NE. > Site is located off Messina Road about 2.5 miles south of its intersection > with LA 8 West.
