Newsletter No: 17 Date: 19th January 2010. Bug Busting Hopefully you received your Bug Busting letter yesterday!! Don't forget to check your child's hair every day this week and sign the sheet to say that you have done so. Send the completed sheet in next week and then we'll sort out a prize for those children who remember to bring back their sheets. Even when it's not Bug Busting week - it is important to check children's hair for Headlice on a regular basis (at least once a week) to ensure that they have not 'caught' any. We did have a couple of outbreaks of Headlice in our junior classes before Christmas which was upsetting for both children and parents alike. If you do find any of the 'unwanted visitors', treat them immediately with the suitable shampoos and sprays available from chemists and supermarkets. NSPCC Don't forget that your child has a special task to complete in school this week. They will either have to pick out shapes on a picture or they will have a spelling test on a list of spellings that they have been given. They are doing this to raise money for the NSPCC through asking people to sponsor them on how many spellings they get right or how many shapes they can spot. Please collect as many sponsors as possible for this worth while cause - and then ensure that the form and sponsor money are returned to school by Thursday 28th January. Please simply fill in your name on the sponsor form and the amount sponsored. If you are a UK Tax Payer and would like to allow the NSPCC to claim gift aid from your donation, please complete your full name and address on the form and tick the box at the end of the row. All the money we raise will go towards the NSPCC. This will help them to continue their good work and to carry on providing the services they offer to as many children as possible. Every child that completes the form with at least one sponsor will receive a badge. The more sponsors that they collect the more badges they receive!! After School Clubs Keep Fit Mrs Hughes' Friday Night Keep Fit Club starts again on 29th January. It is for all Junior children (Years 3 to 6) and runs after school until 4.00pm. Football Practices will re-commence on Tuesday 26th February for Years 3 and 4 and on Thursday 28th January for Years 5 and 6. If your child would like to attend any of these clubs, please sign and return the attached slip as soon as possible. As with all clubs and after school activities, please can parents / carers be reminded to pick up their children from the doors at the back of the school hall - due to security and health and safety reasons. Thank you!! Our New Teaching Assistant If you remember, just before Christmas, we said 'goodbye and happy retirement' to Mrs Willers who had worked at Broad Oak for 15 years. Whilst they are not there, please make sure that you park sensibly and safely when dropping off and picking up children. Our local Community Support Officers were on hand last week and spotted quite a few of our parents/carers parking rather dangerously. Please give a thought to others and make sure that all the children, staff and parents are safe at this busy time at the beginning and end of the school day. I've also questioned a few parents who are using our school car park as a dropping off point. Please do not as this also puts the safety of our school community at risk!! Yours sincerely Mr S B Smith Headteacher Did you know... Did you know that being 15 minutes late on average each day - is the same as missing two weeks of school in one academic year? ..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
