Today (2 Sep) at Carver's Gap on Roan Mtn., in northeast Tenn., I observed a
Yellow-rumped Warbler. This is considerably earlier than their normal fall
arrival date, which is usually late Sep. Also present was a female / immature
type Selasphorus hummer, most likely a Rufous. This bird was unusual in that
it was seen in an area devoid of feeders, but rich in flowers (jewelweed,
etc.). Congratulations to Rack Cross for, more or less, predicting this
species appearance there.
