I observed my first Common Raven of autumn at home in Hampton, TN, in Carter Co. this morning (Sunday, Sept. 19). In addition, while standing near my fish pond, the 20 resident Mallards and two geese panicked and stormed onto the water. An instant later, a shadow passed over. I looked up to see an Osprey, large fish in its talons, soaring past and a Common Crow shadowing the Osprey. There are several ponds near my home, so the Osprey apparently caught breakfast in one of the other ponds, but my ducks and geese are not aware, or at least not convinced, that Ospreys are exclusively fish-eaters.
