Here is the count for the Mendota Hawk Watch as of 9/28/02. The count does=20
not include some numbers for the weekend of September 14-15, which are to be=
=20
reported later in our final report for September. If you have data for=20
9/29/02 or 9/30/02 please let me know. The "regulars" were unable to make it=
=20
for these last two days.

A goodly number of birders showed up Saturday in anticipation that something=
=20
interesting would develop in the wake of Isidore. It turned out to be a=20
beautiful day with good visibility, favorable winds out of the=20
north/northwest, and comfortable temperatures. The number of Broad-winged=20
hawks, however, dropped off sharply compared to last week, and it appears=20
that the big push may have passed us. Nevertheless, we were treated to an=20
interesting array of birds, including two Bald Eagles, a Peregrine Falcon,=20
and a beautiful flight of fifty Double-crested Cormorants flying south=20
(Around 5:15). Near the head of the formation, we spotted what appeared to b=
e=20
a duck, but no positive ID could be made.=20

Observers included Bob Riggs, Bob Quillen, Larry McDaniel, Don Holt, Ralph=20
and Charlene Kiser, Bill Grigsby, Dave Worley, Gary McConnell, James Brooks,=
=20
Bob and Jean Montgomery, Kevin Pierce, Rack and Carol Cross, Ian Vanlare, an=
d=20
yours truly. We also had birders Patty and Michael Anderson (and three=20
children), from North Cove, NC, visiting with us for the first time.
