The Herndon Bird Club Nightjar survey to Fish Springs planned for tonight is canceled because of the predicted bad weather. At the June 4 club meeting (Monday, 7 p.m. st Sycamore Shoals), we will consider rescheduling this survey in the later suitable (based on moonlight) window of June 27 to July 11. The two earlier surveys--Dry Creek and Milligan--were postponed from Tuesday, May 29 to last night, Thursday, May 31. Both were run last night and were successful in hearing both Chuck-will's-widows and Whip-poor-wills. The Dry Creek route was completed, but the Milligan route was terminated after the sixth count stop because of rain. Tentative plans to re-run the Milligan route are for after the Club Meeting, this Monday, June 4 (7 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals), weather permitting. As noted in an earlier announcement, some members and visitors will meet at Bellicino's on South Roan St. in Johnson City at 5:30 p.m. to eat and socialize before the meeting. All are invited and welcome to attend the club meeting, to join us at Bellacino's and to participate in the nightjar survey at Milligan after the meeting.
