Cathy Myers and I made a big birding loop through Johnson and Sullivan counties
today. Below are some highlights.
Roan Creek area on Watauga Lake (Johnson Co.):
Red-breasted Merganser (38)
Red-shouldered Hawk ( 1)
Neva Community (Johnson Co.):
Gray Catbird (1)
Highway 421 - Mtn. City to Iron Mtn. Gap (Johnson Co.):
Red-breasted Nuthatch (1)
Red Crossbill (6)
South Holston Lake at Highway 421 Boat Launch (Sullivan Co.):
Long-tailed Duck (3) - adult males
Bufflehead (62)
Common Goldeneye (3) - females
Red-breasted Merganser (14)
Common Raven (1)
Boone Lake at Davis Marina (Sullivan Co.)
Ruddy Duck (1) - female; found earlier in the day by Rob Biller
