While birding near the mouth of Josiah Creek, South Holston Lake, Sullivan Co.,
today (10/19) I had the first COMMON LOON of the winter.
At PowerLine Farm on Pemberton Rd. in Holston Valley, Sullivan Co., I had the
first WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS 3 of the fall. One was singing.

Also at PowerLine Farm was a MERLIN, our second record this fall. Don Holt had
one in September at Musick's Campground.

Other notable birds for today included an immature Bald Eagle also at the mouth
of Josiah Creek, three Herring Gulls (2 adults, 1 immature) near South Holston
Dam, Double-crested Cormorants 75 (25 on island across from dam and ~50 at
Musick's Campground and Ring-billed Gull (2) on the island across from the dam.

Six Eared Grebes were at Musick's Campground this morning.

The American Wigeon (7) have started building up their population at the Weir
Dam just downstream from South Holston Dam on the river. These are the first I
have had here this fall.

Let's go birding.....
