Shady Valley, Johnson Co., TN

Elizabethton Bird Club field trip - -  7 participants.

Windy conditions made birding a real challenge, however
we found a few good birds.

Highlights:

Pied-billed Grebe - 1, scarce in valley
Sharp-shinned Hawk - 1
Wilson's Snipe - 1
Am. Woodcock - 1, in Schoolyard Springs Preserve
Com Raven - 2
Tree Swallow - 25+
Cedar Waxwing - 12
Palm Warbler - 10+
Lincoln's Sparrow - 1
Swamp Sparrow - 10

At Quarry Bog we saw a Kestrel mobbing a Cooper's Hawk.
Within 10 minutes we saw a Cooper's Hawk mobbing an
immature Bald Eagle. I suspect they were different Cooper's.
This was the first Shady Valley record for Bald Eagle according
to Coffey & Shumate's book.
