The Lee & Lois Herndon Chapter TOS held its last of the Saturday October Bird
Walks on Oct. 27 at Sycamore Shoals State Park in Elizabethton, Carter Co.
Attending were Lisa Tyler, Roy Knispel, Brookie and Jean Potter, Gil Derouen,
Reece Jamerson, David Thometz and Bryan Stevens.

We concentrated in the back country of the park looking for sparrows. We
found Savannah, Field, Song, White-throated Sparrows and Easter Towhee. We also
had a Palm Warbler and Yellow-rumped Warbler. We also good good looks at an
American Kestrel.

After the official walk, we car-pooled to Rasar's Farm and Wilbur Lake.

On the Watauga River at Rasar's Farm, we had female Northern Pintail and
female Gadwall, a Wilson's Snipe (great looks through a scope) and a Merlin.

At Wilbur Lake, we enjoyed looks at the 10 Buffleheads to arrive so far and a
Double-crested Cormorant.

Bryan Stevens,
Hampton, TN
