Area Briders:

This afternoon (8/31) there were two Eared Grebes along the Tennessee-Virginia
stateline near Musick's Campground at South Holston Lake. This is the first
fall record for the region this year.

Chris O'Bryan and I first saw an adult, in breeding plummage, near the mouth of
Spring Creek in Sullivan Co., TN just upstream from Musick's Campground about 3
p.m.

An hour later we saw two birds near the same location. They were swimming from
Tennessee into Washington Co., VA. One appeared to be the bird seen earlier
and the second was in non-breeding colors which would be a bit early for birds
molting to winter wear. We observed the birds at a distance of about 150 feet
with a scope.

Other birds in the vicinity were:

Great Blue Heron 7
Great Egrets 7
Killdeer 42
American Kestrel 1
Ruby-throated Hummingbird 1
Mallard 14
Canada Goose 50
Wood Duck 6
Red-tailed Hawk 1

Let's go birding.....
