The Eared Grebe count at Musick's Campground, South Holston Lake, rose to a
total of seven (7) this evening (Tues. Oct.7). Most trips have been
reporting 3 birds.

I felt like the total number of Ospreys along the Weir Dam and at Musick's
could have been three birds but that wasn't for certain. At least one bird
was present at the Weir and possibly 2 at Musick's. Maybe we are into a
slight movement of this species. At least one was present and hunting the
entire time I was at Musick's. I noticed that the Kiptopeke Hawk Watch in
Eastern Virginia tonight has reported seeing 255 Ospreys moving past since
Sunday. That is about one-third of their season total so far.

I also enjoyed meeting and birding with Allan Kaplowitz and daughter Kara
Kaplowitz of Jonesborough, TN. He has been birding about 15 years and is
from New Jersey. She has taken an ornithology class at ETSU.

Let's go birding...
