I subscribe to both bristol birds and buchanan county listserves and just want
to clear up this report. Roger's original post stated that he'd seen 7 Rose-br
Grosbeaks feeding on locust buds. Just so there's no confusion...

EVENING GROSBEAKS (7) BUCHANAN COUNTY, VA
Roger Mayhorn, walking the Compton Mountain
Bluebird Trail on the Mountain Top Golf Course
in Buchanan County, VA Thursday, 16 April 2015,
at 10:30 a.m. had seven (7) Evening Grosbeaks
which included "seven females or imm males were
feeding on locust buds" Mayhorn wrote earlier
on the Buchanan County bird list that "In the
mid and late 1990's Evening Grosbeaks were a
common sight at our feeders every winter ...
We haven't seen one at our feeders since the
winter of 2004. I was looking through some
old photos and came upon a couple with Grosbeaks.
This first one of three Evening Grosbeaks I took
in our yard on January 26, 1998 with a small
digital camera . . . The second photo is from
a badly scanned photo of a male taken in our
yard, but I'm not sure exactly when. From the
blooming cherry trees in the background I would
say it was probably taken in April and probably
in the late 90's."
