This morning, 12-11-11, Laverne and I did some birding in The Cove. The highlight of the day was 2 Golden Eagles and a Bald Eagle perched in the same snag. The Bald, a 3rd year bird, was perched on the highest point of the snag. It was eating a small mammal. There were 2 adult Golden Eagles watching the Bald Eagle eat. There was a juvenile Golden Eagle soaring in the same area just a few minutes before I saw the 3 perched. Another highlight was an adult Merlin perched on a snag in an open field. We were able to get great looks with the spotting scope. Tom Tom & Laverne Hunter Russell County Bird Club Lebanon, VA
